The Power of One Challenge
We are truly inspired by the positive energy, hopeful attitude and gratitude presented by the IWFM community of shoppers and vendors each week. We believe this energy is benefiting our city and State well beyond the walls of the market hall, but sometimes it’s hard for any one of us as an individual to believe that our singular participation, choice, or contribution really makes much difference.
We believe in the power of one person to make a difference, when joined by many. That is the story of how the IWFM started and continues, and it has inspired us to establish the IWFM Power of One program. Each week at the IWFM you will have the opportunity (not expectation or obligation) to put $1 or any spare change you have in the IWFM Power of One collection jar at the Market Information Table. 100% of these funds will be used to help fund our Eat Well Program, which provides individuals using EBT (foodstamps) to shop at the IWFM with additional Eat Well Program vouchers. Our goal is to provide every individual who uses EBT at the IWFM with an additional $5 to $10 in Eat Well Program vouchers to enhance their purchasing power of the good produce, meats and dairy for sale at the IWFM.
If each person who visited the IWFM put $1 in the collection jar weekly, each individual would contribute up to $23 in six months. However, those $1 contributions, multiplied by over 1,000 weekly attendees, multiplied by 23 weeks in the market season, could total more than $23,000 raised to help feed our community, because all people deserve the right to Eat Well. That is the Power of One to combine with many to make a powerful difference to our community.
Together we are empowered to Be Well in ways we never could alone.
